As digital technologies reshape the workplace, there’s growing evidence that reducing working hours benefits both employees and employers. Researchers at Digital Futures at Work Research Centre (Digit) have authored a policy brief on that highlights key findings from the four-day week trials in the UK and beyond:

🔑 Key Insights:

• The 100-80-100 model (100% pay, 80% hours, 100% performance) led to improved employee well-being (less burnout, better work-life balance) without sacrificing productivity.

• Participating companies saw enhanced recruitment, retention, and even revenue growth.

• Reducing working hours can promote gender equality by making work more accessible for caregivers, and could reduce economic inactivity.

• Trials in the public and private sectors show that the four-day week is scalable and can foster a healthier, more inclusive society.

📈 With 95% of firms continuing the four-day week after trials, it’s time for policymakers and businesses to seriously consider shorter workweeks as part of the future of work.
